We are very thankful that we were able to birth at home again.
This time Rachel wanted to have a birth pool available to her and she loved it!
Her water broke the night before while at dinner with some girlfriends and labor started at 2:30PM on Friday.
Less than 3 hours later Eilan was born!

We just got back from an 8-day trip to Oregon and we had a blast!
Asa got to climb around a cave and play in snow for the first time.

Asa's first halloween! Of course we had to make him a homemade costume for his first go, so....Rachel's step-mom (Mumsy!) brought back some traditional clothes from her trip to Greece and we thought it would be a good idea to be a Greek family. The only thing we were missing was a Gyro. We had a baby...and some felt...and a sewing machine...hmmmm

Our dear friend Ann Helmke came over to bless Asa last week. Ann is the Director of the San Antonio peaceCENTER where Rachel and I have been on the board for the past 3 years.

We began by telling his birth story and then Ann followed with these words:

"Asa Fergusson,
I am going to anoint you, by the one who created you, that you will have wisdom and integrity all your life.
I am going to anoint you, these hands, that they might serve, just as the one who has gone before us, taught us how to serve.
I am going to anoint you, the bottoms of your feet, so that the one who breathes in us the very life, that we may be holy people, will keep you on the path of peace.
And Asa, may you always know in your heart only the things that make for peace.

His color will always be purple, because purple is the color of kings. And he was anointed with lavender because it is just a mere scent of purple.

It's a good day!"

Our incredible midwife Ann came by earlier this week to check on Asa. He is extremely healthy!

He even gained an ounce, which is rare for newborns.

We began to labor at about 8pm. The midwife got here at around 1:30am. It was great to labor for those hours alone.
